Svaeveru choir visits Springbank

Posted by ranald

It was an interesting afternoon at Springbank on Friday 16th February when members of the Svaeveru choir from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration in Bergen came to visit their cask. The choir visits Campbeltown once every two years and always brightens up Springbank with their colourful uniforms and lively characters. This year, nine members of the choir arrived in Campbeltown in advance of the rest of the group and arranged a special surprise for their colleagues. When the choir arrived at their cask in warehouse number 3 at Springbank the smaller group - accompanied by Pipe Major Ian McKerral of the Kintyre Schools Pipe Band - jumped out from behind a row of casks, much to the delight of the rest of the choir. PM McKerral played a selection of tunes for the choir, including Campbeltown Loch I Wish You Were Whisky. After their visit to Springbank the group went on to Craigard House Hotel for their annual assembly and a night of debates, drinking whisky and a generally good time. I'm sure we're all looking forward to the choir's return in two years' time! Here are some photos from their visit.

Tasting Room visitors

Over the last couple of weeks we've been hosting visitors from various hotels, pubs and tourism-related businesses from around Argyll, with one more visit to come next week. The idea has been to promote Springbank and Glengyle disitlleries, The Tasting Room and our whisky shop, and also to let people know what we do here so that they can recommed us to their guests and customers. Here's a photo that Pete took (using our great new Canon EOS 400D camera) of myself and Grant with our visitors from the Grey Gull Inn [ http://www.greygull.co.uk/ ], Ardrishaig, Dunvalanree [ http://www.dunvalanree.com/ ] in Carradale and the Carradale Hotel [ http://www.carradalehotel.com/ ].

Happy Birthday

It is Kate's birthday today! So everyone should be nice to her, and maybe help her up stairs and speak a bit louder cause she's not getting any younger. Only a couple more years till your officially a grown up! While I'm on the subject, I will accept bribes to post embarrasing baby photos (not all of them are black and white!) Cash and whisky welcome.

Your secret's out Pete!

Imagine my surprise when this photo landed in my in box. I couldn't really not share it with the world, could I? The perils of being a true Scotsman..

Swedish Whisky Weekend at Friibergh Manor

Posted by kate

Well first trip of the year didn't start very well to say the least. Was supposed to be flying via London to Stockholm on Thursday 18th Jan to go to a whisky weekend at Friiberghs Manor [ http://www.friibergh.se/ ]. Thursday morning, left Campbeltown, got halfway up the road and the snow started. Lots of snow. Made it to Glasgow airport (with only a few scary moments!) to find that all flights via London were cancelled due to storms and high winds. So stranded in Glasgow overnight (better than Heathrow I suppose) then got the first flight to Heathrow at some ridiculous time in the morning. Got to London, sitting in the departure lounge and the fire alarm went off. Couldn't believe it! Luckily was a false alarm so made it to Stockholm only a day late.
Once I eventually got there though the weekend was great. Friibergh is a really picturesque setting and Susan and Patrik excellend hosts. I was there hosting some tastings at their Whisky weekend. Pictures of the tasting to follow but in the meantime here's a photo of Friibergh Manor grounds - the snow started on the Saturday night and just kept falling. Fortunately Sweden seems more accustomed to severe weather than Scotland so no delays going home!

My wee map!

Here's my version of Pete and Kate's map - that's what a map looks like when you have to pay for your own jaunts around the globe! It's also hard to travel when you've been busy doing a stock take for the Whisky Shop.
